A Scheme Not Of This World (Prints)

A Scheme Not Of This World explores the concept of abstract map-making by creating imaginary topographies. The code (computer programming) simulates textile/graphic design and fine art methods of arranging content within an image, creating complexity from a library of hand-made textures and stripes. All code and visual content is original and created by Alex Russell. Each run of the code creates a unique, one-off artwork.
The library for A Scheme Not Of This World features hand-painted and collaged images on tissue paper. The code is written in ExtendScript (the Adobe extension of JavaScript), running on a PC powered by electricity from 100% sustainable sources.

All prints are archive quality, professionally giclée printed in the UK on acid-free, museum paper. Alex Russell hand-signs each one.
