Alex’s creative process begins with plans for making art that combine models of composition and colour (from art and design) with complex systems (from science and maths). As each piece develops, a more intuitive approach takes over and Alex allows the artwork itself to guide him what to do.

His current painting practice began with a series of development pieces originally intended to form a library of images for his prints. As the artworks emerged, some of them took on a life of their own and became a series of mixed-media paintings. Rather than seeing them as a separate part of his practice, Alex was fascinated by the underlying connections between the paintings and his established printmaking processes. They have heralded a significant step forward in his work, allowing him to find new ways of exploring the balance between experimentation and fine-tuning that lies at the heart of his art.

All paintings are on board, mounted on a wooden panel frame. They are treated with archival, re-dissolvable varnish and supplied with a hanging cord on the reverse.
Each one is signed by the artist and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
